The Karakoram

The Karakoram, Hindu Kush, and Himalayas form the backbone of Pakistan’s mountainous terrain. These three ranges, each with its unique characteristics, boast a staggering number of peaks exceeding 6,000 meters. Pakistan has more peaks above 6,000 meters than any other country in the world, except for China.

The Karakoram, often referred to as the “Roof of the World,” is a particularly impressive range. It is home to five of the world’s 14 highest independent peaks, including K2, the second-highest mountain on Earth. K2 is known for its extreme difficulty and has claimed the lives of many climbers, earning it the reputation of “The Savage Mountain.”

The Hindu Kush

The Hindu Kush, another major mountain range in Pakistan, is characterized by its rugged terrain and deep valleys. It is home to several peaks over 6,000 meters, including Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain in the world. Nanga Parbat is known for its challenging ascent and has been the site of numerous expeditions and tragedies.
